This weekend was the opening of the playhouses for the Raise the Roof Project which benefits the Wings Pallative and Hospice care for children at Barnes Jewish Hospital. I was fortunate to have been the first artist picked to decorate a house for the project.
My sponsor was Team Alii. Alii was a beneficiary of the Wings program services. She was 17 when she passed away after a battle with ovarian cancer. She was an artist with vibrant red hair and personality. If you view her Facebook page, Team Alii, you can see her fantastic personality and art as well.
I was so flattered that her mother was the first sponsor to sign up to sponsor a house and then pick my design.
Friday night I was honored to meet her and her family. The mermaid in my house has vibrant red hair and it reminded her of her daughter. We cried several times over the couple of hours of the private viewing on Friday night. Here are some of the womderful pics from the event:
On Saturday the houses were open to the public and so much fun was had! Ashley with Party Princesses volunteered to be my Ariel, and read stories to the kids at the pancake breakfast. I came as a pirate to share my house with a great crowd. Pics from Saturday:
I’ll have pics of the other houses and the photo shoot soon. Get ready for blog mania this week!
As always, thank you for reading,
