“Thirty-Three Forever” was released on November 26, 2013. It’s the story of Will’s transition into a vampire and Janey, a woman with a life-threatening cancer. Will makes and offers incredible life choices:

“When you are about to tell someone your deepest secret and offer them a sort of eternal life, things can horribly wrong. There’s the stunned expression, denial, accusations of insanity, and sometimes acceptance.”

Ten Days to Will, Day 5

Dear Readers:
“Creating Anna” was released on July 2, 2013. I created Anna to be such a cool character that I think she deserves her own spin off series. But back to Will:

The reader sees a full spectrum of Will’s emotion, from anger to heartbreak, love and loss, especially when it comes to the ladies:

“I’d been a hellion in my younger years, even before I had been turned. I had been with women of all kinds. I reveled in their beauty, their wealth, and passions. I hurt some of them badly; I was quite the cad. I took other men’s wives, girlfriends, daughters, and even someone’s mother. I had bedded some, devoured some, and sometimes did both without care or responsibility.

Despite my wicked ways, I had redeemed myself through one human. A woman, who would become one of the most valiant and honorable vampires known on this planet; I had sired Anna.”
This is the first of the “eye” covers, as believing that the “eyes are the windows to the soul”. Me as Anna for “Creating Anna”.

Dear Readers:

“Mabel” was released on June 27, 2013.

Mabel is a lonely woman caught in the world of the 1930’s dustbowl recovering Kansas. It is by far, the most tender side of Will you will see:

From Mabel-

“Hey why don’t we dance a bit?” I joked and hummed some odd tune. I pulled her gently around the parlor. We sashayed and I even dipper her. She giggled like a school girl. And suddenly…I was taken aback and froze. The pause didn’t go unnoticed and she quickly withdrew with a mumbled “I’m sorry.” She plopped onto the couch and started to cry.

Mabel had been so deprived of the good things in life. I felt suddenly responsible to give some hope to her. Then just as quickly, I felt guilty for leading her on. I have never been with a woman as old as she, but I did oddly wonder what it would be like.”

As for the cover, for the first time in a while, I posed to not be “pretty”. I felt that to be fair and representative of the tale, that the cover should show mainly the locket that bring the story full circle:

Ten Days to Will, Day 3

Dear Readers:
“Esme/Tiffany” was released on June 22, 2013. In this story, Will tells of his dark past in the courts at Versailles.

I wrote this series in first person so that the reader could get a sense of Will’s frustration, desire, and every emotion in between. His desecent into a temporary madness changes him forever:

“The fear in her eyes was astonishing. In all of my few hundred years as an undead, I had never seen anyone so horrified.”

This story is probably the most visceral and violent of the collection. But it changes Will, for good.

I would like to note here that I don’t use violence in a precarious fashion. It is always has a purpose, whether to explain a character’s reasoning or a catalyst for action. With the recent natural disasters world wide, the bombings in London, and the horrific shooting in Las Vegas, I hope and pray for peace for our world. That these events spur us to help others and to make us better citizens of our planet.

For this cover, I used a pre-existing photo from another project and cropped it down for “Esme” for “Esme/Tiffany”.

Ten Days to Will, Day 2

Dear Readers:

The “Roarin’ 20’s” was released on April 13, 2014. It’s a tale of Will’s persistent rescuer complex, a wayward flapper, and how they fall in love.

This is not a warm and fuzzy series. If I was going to get inside the head of a vampire, it was going to be true, gritty, and revealing.

Revisiting this story was a little jarring after the passing of my sister last Easter, especially when rereading one of the last climatic scenes. Death comes frequently in this series, causing Will to continually question how he lives his undead life.

Will’s human traits are exposed in how he feels about Sadie:

“She pitifully pawed at her closed eyes like a new born kitten. I wiped off her smeared makeup to find that she was even prettier without it.”

But his vampire side comes to light in how he coolly finishes off one who has crossed him:

“I easily punctured his carotid artery and sucked greedily. His blood squirted warmly down my throat. When I stopped feeding for a moment, it sprayed across the seat and dashboard.”

Again I posed for the cover, furthering my photo/styling work, as “Sadie” for “The Long Moonlight”.

“Roarin’ 20’s” is one of the most balanced of Will’s emotions. I hope you enjoy it.

10 Days to Will, Day 1

Dear Readers:

“The Long Moonlight” was supposed to be just a romantic lovestory short. It turned into a full-blown life journey of Will, a vampire that’s lived for over 500 years.

As I write in the foreword of “The First Ten Bites, vols. 1-10 of the Vampire’s Little Black Book Series”, I was working on my first Steampunk novel, “Strax and the Widow”, when I had a pleasant distraction from an unexpected muse. Will the vampire was born.

I didn’t start the series because because vampires were “hot” again. I wanted to get inside the head of an undead. “What do you do with forever on your hands?”

This year has been filled with many twists and I had expected to release the compilation much sooner. But now at last, Will returns, in this collection of the first ten stories.

The first very short story, “The Long Moonlight”, released on February 13, 2013, introduces the reader to William and his very long life.

I started with illustrations for the books, but ended up using them as an artistic opportunity for myself and a couple of others as models for the covers. Here I am as “Emma” for “The Long Moonlight”.

With a little filter, blue Christmas lighting, and just the right pose, I became Emma, forever waiting for the return of Will.

I also chose model/artist in his own right, Patrick Renfrow, to be the image of Will. More on that in upcoming blogs.
