The last couple of weeks have tried my patience. I had a cold that went to an intestinal bug and finally a sinus infection and laryngitis. More on this in a moment..
To make things worse, the US suffered a mass shooting in California, and a fire that broke out near by ended up spreading for miles and killing over 60 people with many missing. And for those who love comics, science fiction, and fantasy, we lost Stan Lee.
Stan was a man who gave us dreams. The hope that there is good and everyday heroes among us. That we could be better. That we could different and be ourselves. We could be heroes.
Stan inspired my writing. The worlds and super heroes he created for Marvel have made me want to create my own Marvel-like Universe for my Steampunk and vampire characters. Many of these characters are coming to fruition in the next few days (more on that too further down).
Here are some of my favorite pieces and pics I’ve seen online:
My favorite line from his many cameos has to be in Spider-Man with Toby McGuire, “You know, I guess one person can make a difference.”
Rest In Peace Stan Lee-Excelsior!
So back to the illness. I hate not having a voice. And I truly believe that part of it comes from not speaking up, literally not be able to say what I want to. I’ve blogged about this before and I can’t believe it’s happened again. But at least I see that it has happened, and next time? I won’t mince my words because the aftermath to my health has been devastating.
Right now I’m at a whisper. A couple of weeks ago I got a little cold. The stomach thing was probably coming. I’ve managed to avoid people dropping like flies around me. I went to work at one of my side jobs (not my great full time current employer) the next day even though I wasn’t 100%.
Now, I’m not going to disclose the full details, but in a nutshell, the minute I got out of my car I was yelled at. It continued after I got inside the shop. I spoke up briefly but was immediately rebuffed with a tirade that I instantly felt in my gut. I had defense, I had proof, but in this moment of insanity from a person I knew that was grieving and had personal issues, I let it slide. And boy was it ever ‘my bad’.
This ranting was the main reason that this side job went, well, to the side. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that I literally lost my voice a few days later because I let my words get taken from me. I had sinus issues sneak back in with that nasty drainage that causes one to hack up a lung and rough up the vocal cords in the process. I’ve done every home remedy I know and the doc has already told me what I’ve known all along, no talking for 3-4 days.
I’m frustrated as hell. I chat like crows over a garbage dump. And I’ve now missed four days of work at a time when I really need the money and have the most opportunity to make money during the holidays. So not sticking up for myself has cost me health, time, and money. It won’t happen again, I assure you. Because as soon as I can replace that side with something else, I’m gone. Lesson learned.
The bright side? I’ve been writing and prepping for the onslaught of Christmas from the couch (when I wasn’t sleeping on it). There is nothing like anger to make you change. I’ve got 5-6 pieces coming out by the end of 2019. Fire up those kindles and get those bookmarks OUT:
Will the vampire is back! “I Died Here” is on amazon/kindle as of today!
Yes, I just embarrassingly realized that the 11th story was promised for late 2014-15. I did get “The First Ten Bites” compiled last year in 2017. I also wrote 2 pieces for competition that didn’t win, however their loss and your gain, because The Kochi and A Dream of Emerald Skies are both coming very soon. And yes Kate Church is returning in an epic adventure so big that your fingers will burn while turning pages.
