More Masks!!!

Hello Lovelies:

New masks in the Etsy store!! Works in progress here:

I have had overwhelming requests for plain masks, unisex masks, or masks for men and people with larger features or to be worn over existing eyewear. Note that these masks have wider set eyes, larger eye holes, and longer tie ribbons.

These masks are made from super soft brown recycled leather, so PLEASE NOTE, there may be slight imperfections in the fabric. All are hand cut and glued, so there may two of one style but they may not be exactly alike. The leather is purposely NOT formed or stiffened.

The back side of the masks are constructed so that they are almost reversible to a very plain brown suede look, but there are patches on those back sides to fully secure and cover the ribbon stitches. Ribbon is black satin.

The pointed corner masks are trimmed with black trim. The rounded masks are trimmed with brown trim.

And above you’ll see I’ve added a new ladies mask.

You can purchase them here:

http://www.etsy.com/shop/TheHauteHen

And yes, there are still more things I’m working on for the Etsy store, writing, and upcoming shows.

As always, thank you for reading!

Victoria

Birthdays Abound!!

My birthday was October 5th and “Strax and the Widow” turned one on September 25th. I can’t believe it’s been a year since it’s digital publication.

I had hoped to have Strax in paperback form and its sequel, “Revenge and Machinery” completed. I also had hoped to have a few new vamp stories online and the first ten adventures of Will in a compilation. But this year, visual art took up so much more of my time. But it was worth it. I’ve churned out so many great pieces this year and sold a lot of work. I’m hoping to have most of the steampunk work finished in time for the holidays.

In the meantime, I’d like to celebrate my and Strax’s birthdays with a small sale. From October 8th until October 15th, Strax and the Widow will be on sale for $1.99 on amazon/kindle. The Vampire’s Little Black Book series will continue to be $.99 per short story until I have the compilation completed. So please, take a gander, and share it with your friends! The link is here:

Again, you don’t have to have a kindle to download it, just the kindle app or program for your e-devices.

I am truly grateful to be alive to celebrate another birthday and doing what I love to do!! Thank YOU!!!

As always, thank you for reading.

Fun at Big River Steampunk Festival!

I’ve been writing a lot lately. My writing muse has pretty much taken over, which means the sequel to “Strax and the Widow”, “Revenge and Machinery” is coming along.

But I’m behind on blogging. Thus finally the highlights from the Labor Day weekend Big River Steampunk Festival in Hannibal, MO.

First, it was incredibly hot. So hot I confess I spent a huge amount of time in one of the local bars and antiquing.

But we started off watching some of the performers on the main stage and catching up in time travel with writer Barbara MacRobie from the Missouri Arts Council.

Then onto watching Doc Phineas hosting tea dueling:

Got a few photos with the Doc:

Doc was certainly one of the most pleasant people I’ve ever met.

Can Can Kate and I got a bit overheated so we headed to Rumor Has It for libations and chow. Some of the best mozerella sticks ever!

It was still quite hot, so on we went to antiquing at Main Street at Main Street 101 and Savannah’s for great antique pieces!

I hate to complain about the heat, but it was just too yucky. We did miss some of the contests, including the beard and costume competitions, but I know both of Saturday’s winners. They are fine people! Saw the Airship Vindus crew and Marcibel Automation from afar, but again, our time was limited to just Saturday afternoon.

We wrapped up with some lovely ice cream, a last look at the shops, a nice meet with a rat catcher, and quick hello to Unwoman on the way to her gig.

Couldn’t resist an impromptu shoot with Can Can:

I plan on going back next year and hope for cooler weather and more time to explore!

As always, thank you for reading.

Return to Steampunk

I’ve been doing a lot of pirate activities lately after finally wrapping up the debut of the “Under the Sea” playhouse.

So, at last I’m posting pics from the photo shoot with three talented photographers, Wade Edwards, Ryan London, and Rod Wright, and the fabulous model, Dana Byrd. I also took some casual shots from my iPhone. I styled and provided some of my costume pieces and jewelry.

We started in the stairwell of an abandoned electrical building that is now being rehabbed, just north of downtown St. Louis. The following shots are mine:

We then moved upstairs and found a great old window for Dana to pose in.

I took a couple shadow shots at the window. I like how there’s just a hint of color here:

Just a note, for the most part, I don’t use any filters. I only crop my images. No other editing techniques were used. I like raw photos.

We then went downstairs and found a couple of fun architectural items to have Dana pose with:

I’ve picked my favorites of the other photographers that were there. They are featured here with their permission and may not be further reproduced without their permission.

Rod Wright  The color is just so rich here.

Wade Edwards  I love the dark, gothic look. It reminds me of the black and white portions of the Wizard of Oz.

Ryan London   I like the iconic look to this one.

Another antique styled piece, love it.

These gentlemen were all so talented. It was hard to pick favorites.

More steam adventures coming after the Big River Steampunk Festival in Hannibal, MO this weekend! But one last quick reminder, there’s a 50% off sale in the Etsy store with code SUMMER50 through Sept. 6.

As always, thank you for reading.

The Pirate Returns

At the second day of the playhouse opening I dressed like a pirate to entertain and match my playhouse “Under the Sea”. I liked the outfit so much that I ended up doing a whole shoot with fun results. Enjoy!

In the next few days my steampunk posts return.

More Playhouses

I’m still basking in the glow of the Raise the Roof opening. Again, I ended up doing a whole photo set with just my costume afterwards, that I’ll feature on my next blog. For now here’s just a taste:

So back to the opening. There were many more playhouses at Raise the Roof including a really well produced steampunk one by Allison Larkins:

A great variety of styles and ideas were represented, enjoy the pics!

Under the Sea Revealed

This weekend was the opening of the playhouses for the Raise the Roof Project which benefits the Wings Pallative and Hospice care for children at Barnes Jewish Hospital. I was fortunate to have been the first artist picked to decorate a house for the project.

My sponsor was Team Alii. Alii was a beneficiary of the Wings program services. She was 17 when she passed away after a battle with ovarian cancer. She was an artist with vibrant red hair and personality. If you view her Facebook page, Team Alii, you can see her fantastic personality and art as well.

I was so flattered that her mother was the first sponsor to sign up to sponsor a house and then pick my design.

Friday night I was honored to meet her and her family. The mermaid in my house has vibrant red hair and it reminded her of her daughter. We cried several times over the couple of hours of the private viewing on Friday night. Here are some of the womderful pics from the event:

On Saturday the houses were open to the public and so much fun was had! Ashley with Party Princesses volunteered to be my Ariel, and read stories to the kids at the pancake breakfast. I came as a pirate to share my house with a great crowd. Pics from Saturday:

I left so inspired, that I did a whole separate pirate photo shoot afterwards.

I’ll have pics of the other houses and the photo shoot soon. Get ready for blog mania this week!

As always, thank you for reading,

-Victoria
